There are two assignments for these subject which are seminar and group assignments. I have learned that seminar helped to revise what had been taught during the lecture. In addition to that, it also helped to build up own's confidence so that in future may feel comfortable when talking to client or other people in the construction field.
Besides that, I have learned that how to prepare final account for the group assignments. Furthermore, I also learned how to write a report properly.

Portfolio for Measurement 5
Mechanical and electrical works and civil works are being covered in Measurement 5. Under mechanical and electrical works, there are few topics being covered which are as below:
1. Electrical work
2. Cold Water Supply Installation
3. Sanitary Installation
4. Fire Protection
5. Air- Conditioning Installation
For civil works, the topics that are being covered are:
1. Class A- General Items
2. Class B- Environmental Protection and Enhancement
3. Class C- Traffic Management and Control
4. Class D- Site Investigation Work
5. Class E- Demolition and Site Clearance
6. Class F-Earthworks
7. Class G- Geotechnical Works
8. Class S-Rail Track
For measurement 5, there are a group assignment which related to earthworks. In that assignment, I learned how to count the cut and fill area. Besides that, I also learned how to use the simpson's formula for area which is:
Area = D/3(K+4M+2L)
where D=offset interval,
K= sum of first and last offset,
M=sum of even offsets
L=sum of odd offsets.
Whereas for Simpson's formula for volume is:
Volume= P/3[(A1+4(A2)+2(A3)+4(A4)+A5]

There are one group assignment for this subject which is relating to core business, financial objective, marketing objective, market share, market target and financial forecasting of a company. Throughout this assignment, I have learned that how to do a forecast for a company for the next few years in terms of revenue, expenses, cost of sales and so on. Besides that, I also learned that there are differences between market target and market share. Market target is the person that you targeted for your product. Besides that, market share is not the share in the stock market, whereas it is the portion of distribution of the division in the company in terms of percentage. Furthermore, I also learned how to calculate financial ratio such as operating profit margin, net profit margin, return on equity and so on.

Building Economics is a new subject to me for this semester. The topics that being covered in Building Economics are as below:
Chapter 1 : Introduction
Chapter 2 : Concept of Cost Control
Chapter 3: Cost Modelling
Chapter 4: Building Morphology and Design Economics
Chapter 5: Cost Analysis, Indices & Data
Chapter 6: Detail Cost Planning
Chapter 7: Investment and Development Appraisals
Chapter 8: Whole Life Costing
Based on the topics that being taught, I have learned that costing is very important for construction field. The study of Building Economics consists of the application of the techniques and expertise of economics to construction projects. It includes client's requirement, possible effects on the surrounding area, relationship of space and shape, assessment of initial cost, means of controlling cost and building and material life estimate.
The construction industry has characteristics which are different from other industries which are physical nature of the product, structure of the industry, organisation of the construction process and method of price determination.
Other than that, I also learned the importance of cost control. It is important for quantity surveyor to know the importance of cost control as they usually need to help the clients to control the cost of a project so that it is within their budget.
Besides that, several route of procurement and types of tender are being taught also. There are four procurements that are being taught which are traditional procurement, design and build procurement and management procurement. While, types of tender consists of open tendering, restricted tendering, selected tendering and negotiated tendering. In addition to that, I got to know the pros and cons of each procurement or tendering.
